1- The first connection of God with Abraham is showing him his great universe: it is the question that God put in the mind of all of us. This is the universe look about and ask who created that. Abraham logically was looking for the most compelling in the universe. However he recognized they are also created. God made the connection after that and the angels of God gave him several visitations as well God would contact him in visions.
(6:75) 6:75 (Picktall) Thus did We show Abraham the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he mighty be of those possessing certainty:
(6:76) 6:76 (Picktall) When the night grew dark upon him he beheld a star. He said: This is my Lord. But when it set, he said: I love not things that set.
(6:776:77 (Picktall) And when he saw the moon uprising, he exclaimed: This my Lord. But when it set, he said: Unless my Lord guide me, I surely shall become one of the folk who are astray.
6:78 (Picktall) And when he saw the sun uprising, he cried: This is my Lord! This is greater! And when it, set be exclaimed: O my people! Lo! I am free from all that ye associate (with Him).
6:79 (Picktall) Lo! I have turned my face toward him Who created the heavens and the earth, as one by nature upright, and I am not of the idolaters.
2- God appointed him to be a leader of humanity and from his offspring:
(2:124) 2:124 (Picktall) And (remember) when his Lord tried abraham with (His) commands, and he fulfilled them, He said: Lo! I have appointed thee a leader for mankind. (abraham) said: And of my offspring (will there be leaders)? He said: My covenant includeth not wrongdoers.
3- God chose Abraham as a close friend: Not only for his passing all the trials of God to him including being threw in fire, the sacrifice of his son and the sacrifice of his love and relation to his father.
(4:125) 4:125 (Picktall) Who is better in religion than he who surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good (to men) and followeth the tradition of abraham, the upright? Allah (Himself) chose abraham for friend.
(21:69) 21:69 (Picktall) We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for abraham.
(19:46) 19:46 (Picktall) He said: Rejectest thou my gods, O abraham? If thou cease not, I shall surely stone thee. Depart from me a long while!
(43:26) 43:26 (Picktall) And when abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship
(37:102) 37:102 (Picktall) And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast.
4- In fact Abraham was a nation by himself: for what his obedience to God and his leadership. No wonder he is the origin of the three major religions.
إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِلّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ (16:120) 16:120 (Picktall) Lo! abraham was a nation obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the idolaters;
5- God ordered Abraham to build his house in Mecca and prepare it for pilgrims:
(2:125) 2:125 (Picktall) And when We made the House (at Mecca) a resort for mankind and a sanctuary, (saying): Take as your place of worship the place where abraham stood (to pray). And We imposed a duty upon abraham and Ishmael, (saying): Purify My house for those who go around and those who meditate therein and those who bow down and prostrate themselves (in worship).
(2:127) 2:127 (Picktall) And when abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House, (abraham prayed): Our Lord! Accept from us (this duty). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower.
(3:97) 3:97 (Picktall) Wherein are plain memorials (of Allah's guidance); the place where abraham stood up to pray; and whosoever entereth it is safe. And pilgrimage to the House is a duty unto Allah for mankind, for him who can find a way thither. As for him who disbelieveth, (let him know that) Lo! Allah is Independent of (all) creatures.
6- God gave Abraham and his offspring the prophethood, the books of guidance and kingdom. The last will be that of Jesus (PBUH).
(4:54) 4:54 (Picktall) Or are they jealous of mankind because of that which Allah of His bounty hath bestowed upon them? For We bestowed upon the house of abraham (of old) the Scripture and Wisdom, and We bestowed on them a mighty kingdom.
(12:38) 12:38 (Picktall) And I have followed the religion of my fathers, abraham and Isaac and Jacob. It never was for us to attribute aught as partner to Allah. This is of the bounty of Allah unto us (the seed of abraham) and unto mankind; but most men give not thanks.
7- Islam is extension to the true teachings of Abraham:
(6:161) 6:161 (Picktall) Say: Lo! As for me, my Lord hath guided me unto a straight path, a right religion, the community of abraham, the upright, who was no idolater
(2:130) 2:130 (Picktall) And who forsaketh the religion of abraham save him who befooleth himself? Verily We chose him in the world, and lo! in the Hereafter he is among the righteous.
(22:78) 22:78 (Picktall) And strive for Allah with the endeavor which is His right. He hath chosen you and hath not laid upon you in religion any hardship; the faith of your father abraham (is yours). He hath named you Muslims of old time and in this (Scripture), that the messenger may be a witness against you, and that ye may be witnesses against mankind. So establish worship, pay the poor due, and hold fast to Allah. He is your Protecting Friend. A blessed Patron and a blessed Helper!
