Charity in the Quran.

By: Maged Taman:

1- One of the pillars of Islam: The most important of the five pillars of Islam after you say the Shahada is prayers then charity. No wonder they come together in many Quranic verses in this sequence.

2:43 and be constant in prayer, and spend in charity, and bow down in prayer with all who thus bow down.
(2:43) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

2- Our acts of charity are recorded: The charity is so important to God that he keep records of it that will be revealed to us the day of judgment.

2:270 For, whatever you may spend on others, or whatever you may vow [to spend], verily, God knows it; and those who do wrong [by withholding charity] shall have none to succour them. (2:270) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

3- There is two ways for charity opened and secret: Both serve two different functions. When we declare the charity opened it stimulates other to do the same. Giving charity in secret is particularly encouraged when is given to certain person who may not want to be known as the receiver.

2:271 If you do deeds of charity openly, it is well; but if you bestow it upon the needy in secret, it will be even better for you, and it will atone for some of your bad deeds. And God is aware of all that you do.
(2:271) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

4- Forgiving debt is one act of charity:

2:280 If, however, [the debtor] is in straitened circumstances, [grant him] a delay until a time of ease; and it would be for your own good -if you but knew it -to remit [the debt entirely] by way of charity. (2:280) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

5- The best of speech is that of encouraging charity:

4:114 NO GOOD comes, as a rule, out of secret confabulations - saving such as are devoted to enjoining charity, or equitable dealings, or setting things to rights between people:
and unto him who does this out of a longing for God's goodly acceptance We shall in time grant a mighty reward.
(4:114) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

6- Mercy of God will go to those who give charity:

7:156 And ordain Thou for us what is good in this world as well as in the life to come: behold, unto Thee have we turned in repentance!" [God] answered: "With My chastisement do I afflict whom I will - but My grace overspreads everything: and so I shall confer it on those who are conscious of Me and spend in charity, and who believe in Our messages-

(7:156) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

7- Jesus (PBUH) was ordered by God to give charity:

19:31 and made me blessed wherever I may be; and He has enjoined upon me prayer and charity as long as I live,
(19:31) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

8- Other prophets as well ordered to give charity:

21:73 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship.
(21:73) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

9- God promised those who will inherit the earth will keep in giving charity: not those who use the greed of interest rate.

22:41 [well aware of] those who, [even] if We firmly establish them on earth, remain constant in prayer, and give in charity, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong; but with God rests the final outcome of all events.
(22:41) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

10- Men of God are not occupied by making money that they would ignore charity:

24:37 people whom neither [worldly] commerce nor striving after gain can divert from the remembrance of God, and from constancy in prayer, and from charity: [people] who are filled with fear [at the thought] of the Day On which all hearts and eyes will be convulsed,
(24:37) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

11- Those who are the believers are constant in prayers and giving charity:

27:3 who are constant in prayer and spend in charity: and believers in the Hereafter.
(27:3) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

12- The one who increase their profits are the one who give charity and not usury:

30:39 And [remember:] whatever you may give out in usury so that it might increase through [other] people’s possessions will bring [you] no increase in the sight of God
(30:39) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

13- The time to give charity is not after you die:

63:10 And spend on others out of what We have provided for you as sustenance, ere there come a time when death approaches any of you, and he then says, "O my Sustainer! If only Thou wouldst grant me a delay for a short while, so that I could give in charity and be among the righteous!"
(63:10) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

14- The winner is the one who gives charity against his own greed:

64:16 Remain, then, conscious of God as best you can, and listen [to Him], and pay heed. And spend in charity for the good of your own selves: for, such as from their own covetousness are saved – it is they, they that shall attain to a happy state!
(64:16) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
