Joseph Story in one verse of the Quran

By: Maged Taman

12:100 And he (Joseph) placed his parents on the dais and they fell down before him prostrate, and he said: O my father! This is the interpretation of my dream of old. My Lord hath made it true, and He hath shown me kindness, since He took me out of the prison and hath brought you from the desert after Satan had made strife between me and my brethren. Lo! my Lord is tender unto whom He will. He is the Knower, the Wise. (12:100) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

This verse brief us about the story of prophet Joseph:

1- The verse recount Joseph story of about 40 years or more in one verse.
2- The story started by a dream and the end is by the realization of this dream which is 11 planets and the sun and moon prostrating to him (his brothers and parents).
3- It tells the most important two events of the story which his release from prison and their gathering with Joseph in Egypt. Both are likely the happiest moments in Joseph life.
4- You can see Joseph politeness in praising God and in not questioning God of any of his sufferings. He has the same greatness of his grandfather Abraham.
5- Similarly you can see Joseph politeness in blaming Satan and not his brothers for their actions against him.
6- He however accounted the will of God to everything. God let Satan do his devious plans. At the end God was tender to Joseph and his brothers and had a happy ending for them.
7- The verse show us how God know the future (the dream) and each one play his will including Satan to find out that God already knew that from the beginning.
8- The verses shows as well how Joseph put his parents in high place and honour.
9- Even if you did not read the Chapter of Joseph or you just want the bottom line it is this verse. Joseph was released from prison and likely he was innocent since he account his release to God. Likely he was separated from his family since God brought his family back to him. Likely his separation from his family was related at least in part to his brothers. It shows the complexity of good and evil and how Satan wants to separate and harm and God wants to gather and reward.
