91:14 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا (91:14)

91:15 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا (91:15)

In this simple few verses of a short chapter of Quran called the Sun God convey his message to us in a simple and clear way. He swear by his creation the Sun, the moon, the heavens and the earth. Then he swear with what is deeply important to us our souls and how he created our souls to recognize him and recognize as well the good and evil. All this swearing is for the fact he announces to us that the purpose of creation is to see if we would lead our souls to purity or we would keep it in darkness.
Are you willing to make it shine with light and purity as the sun or keep it in the darkness of the nights. God gave example to those who choose the darkness "people of Thamud" who did not want to believe their messenger Saleh and asked him for a miracle and they choose the miracle to be a camel coming out of stone. God brought them the miracle and they mocked the prophet and killed the camel or the miracle they were looking for. Their evil and rebellion souls had chosen the darkness and did not fear their creator so no one should feel piety for them.
