Faith in Islam

By: Maged Taman

1- Mohammad gave us faith only after he got it from God: One of the great evidence of God is the Quran. it was inspired by God. Muhammad before that was not aware of faith and did not have his own Quran. The Quran create faith in Muhammad heart and he was then able to spread the faith.

42:52 And thus have We inspired in thee (Muhammad) a Spirit of Our command. Thou knewest not what the Scripture was, nor what the faith. But We have made it a light whereby We guide whom We will of Our bondmen. And lo! thou verily dost guide unto a right pathوَكَذَلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِي مَا الْكِتَابُ وَلَا الْإِيمَانُ وَلَكِن جَعَلْنَاهُ نُورًا نَّهْدِي بِهِ مَنْ نَّشَاء مِنْ عِبَادِنَا وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِي إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ (42:52) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

2- The faith is of the unseen came with the proof of the seen, pondered on and recited: The Quran: This is the way God decided to our faith. Do not expect angels will talk to you or a sign in the sky that persists over human history. However the Quran have all the arguments of God about his existance and his commands. It is his speech, decide for youself.

(2:2) 2:2 (Picktall) This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil).
(2:3) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:3 (Picktall) Who believe in the unseen, and establish worship, and spend of that We have bestowed upon them;

(4:174) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
Ya ayyuha alnnasu qad jaakum burhanun min rabbikum waanzalna ilaykum nooran mubeenan
4:174 (Picktall) O mankind! Now hath a proof from your Lord come unto you, and We have sent down unto you a clear light;

3- Faith is defined in Quran: Faith is fear of God with respect, trust and love and not like the fear of a tyrant or injust people. It is strengthened by reading the Quran and in putting trust in God.

(8:2) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

8:2 They only are the (true) believers whose hearts feel fear when Allah is mentioned, and when the revelations of Allah are recited unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord;

4- We prove our faith by doing the good deeds:
(4:125) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
4:125 Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to Allah, does good, and follows the way of Abraham the true in faith? For Allah did take Abraham for a friend.
(10:9) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
10:9 Those who believe, and work righteousness,- their Lord will guide them because of their faith: beneath them will flow rivers in gardens of bliss.
(21:94) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
21:94 Whoever works any act of righteousness and has faith,- His endeavour will not be rejected: We shall record it in his favour.

5- God give us life and light when we have faith: otherwise we are dead or in dark.
(6:122) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
6:122 Can he who was dead, to whom We gave life, and a light whereby he can walk amongst men, be like him who is in the depths of darkness, from which he can never come out? Thus to those without faith their own deeds seem pleasing.

6- Most people have faith when they are in severe distress: One of the great evidence of God is our calling to him in the time of stress. Even those with weak faith or no faith are faithful at that time.
29:65 And when they mount upon the ships they pray to Allah, making their faith pure for Him only, but when He bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto Him), - فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا فِي الْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ (29:65) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
31:32 And if a wave enshroudeth them like awnings, they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only. But when He bringeth them safe to land, some of them compromise. None denieth Our signs save every traitor ingrate. (31:32) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

7- Submission is usually the first process of faith: it is more qualitative meaning you believe or not while faith is degree after submission the faith grow overtime. The things make it grow is reading more in quran, praying more and keeping obedience to God and his messenger.
49:14 The wandering Arabs say: We believe. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Ye believe not, but rather say "We submit," for the faith hath not yet entered into your hearts. Yet, if ye obey Allah and His messenger, He will not withhold from you aught of (the reward of) your deeds. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (49:14) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

8- God cause our faith to grow and become stronger if we are faithful to him:
57:28 O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah and put faith in His messenger. He will give you twofold of His mercy and will appoint for you a light wherein ye shall walk, and will forgive you. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful; (57:28) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
48:4 He it is Who sent down peace of reassurance into the hearts of the believers that they might add faith unto their faith. Allah's are the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is ever Knower, Wiseهُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ السَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا (48:4) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

9- We will be tested in our faith:
(2:214) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:214 Or do ye think that ye shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried: "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!

(2:155) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

2:155 Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,

10- Some people sell their religion for some worldly benefits:
(3:177) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
3:177 Those who purchase disbelief at the price of faith harm Allah not at all, but theirs will be a painful doom.
(3:77) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
3:77 As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty.

11- Some people reject faith for envy of the messenger or Muslims: which is stupid since when you join Muslims you become one of them.
(2:90) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:90 Miserable is the price for which they have sold their souls, in that they deny (the revelation) which Allah has sent down, in insolent envy that Allah of His Grace should send it to any of His servants He pleases: Thus have they drawn on themselves Wrath upon Wrath. And humiliating is the punishment of those who reject faith.
(2:105) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:105 It is never the wish of those without faith among the People of the Book, nor of the Pagans, that anything good should come down to you from your Lord. But Allah will choose for His special Mercy whom He will - for Allah is Lord of grace abounding.

12- Some people come to faith in Islam from the people of the book: when they study their book as it is well interpreted along with studying and the Quran.
(2:121) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:121 Those to whom We have sent the Book study it as it should be studied: They are the ones that believe therein: Those who reject faith therein,- the loss is their own.

13- The most common reason of rejection of faith is arrogance:
(39:59) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
39:59 "(The reply will be:) 'Nay, but there came to thee my Signs, and thou didst reject them: thou wast Haughty, and became one of those who reject faith!'"

14- The second most common cause of rejection of faith is partenership: For some Christians it is difficult for them to reject Jesus as God since they taught early on that.
(40:12) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
40:12 (The answer will be:) "This is because, when Allah was invoked as the Only (object of worship), ye did reject faith, but when partners were joined to Him, ye believed! the Command is with Allah, Most High, Most Great!"

15- In the day of judgement will gain the fruit of our faith or ejection of faith:
(3:106) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
3:106 On the Day when some faces will be (lit up with) white, and some faces will be (in the gloom of) black: To those whose faces will be black, (will be said): "Did ye reject faith after accepting it? Taste then the penalty for rejecting faith."
(5:36) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
5:36 As to those who reject faith,- if they had everything on earth, and twice repeated, to give as ransom for the penalty of the Day of Judgment, it would never be accepted of them, theirs would be a grievous penalty.
