Examples of Jews' Conspiracies

From: http://www.islamweb.net/kidsen/kids%20corner%201,2/subjects/yahood.html

The Jews lived in the Arabian Peninsula before the mission of Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, especially in Khaybar, Waady Al-Quraa, Taymaa’, and Yathrib (Al-Madeenah). The Jews used to boast to their Arab neighbors on being “People of the Scripture” who adopted a divine religion that was revealed from Allaah, and that the final prophet – of whom their holy book gave glad tidings – was about to appear and they were expecting that this prophet would be from among them.
Moreover, the Jews used to claim that they were Allaah’s chosen nation and that prophethood would definitely go to one of them. Thus, they would follow that prophet,
help him to fight the disbelieving Arabs, and gain victory over them, and then they would have authority over the whole world.
However, when Allaah sent His Messenger Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, from among the Arabs, the Jews were very angry and wondered: How could it be that the expected prophet was not from among us?! Reacting to that, they all decided not to believe in that Arabian prophet and to fight him with all their power and might.

The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, migrated to Yathrib and Islam lit up this place and spread among its people. After the blessed migration, Yathrib became known as “Al-Madeenah Al-Munawwarah” When he came to it, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, organized the relationship between its inhabitants and made it easy for all of them to coexist. They were a mixture of two Arab tribes: Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj as well as some Jewish sects from Banu Qaynuqaa`, Banu Quraythah, and Banu An-Nadheer.
The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, associated the Muhaajiroon (Migrants of Makkah) as brothers of the Ansaar (Residents of Al-Madeenah).
After Allaah had blessed them with Islam, the Ansaar became affectionate brothers after they had been disputing enemies. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, also wrote a pact between the
Al-Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar and made them as one cooperative and united nation.
Among the terms of the pact in that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, secured for the Jews – who were living with the Arabs in Al-Madeenah – the right to continue practicing their religion. He also promised that their lives and property would be safe provided they do not ally themselves with anyone against the Muslims or betray them at any time, and that they should defend Al-Madeenah along with the Muslims against any enemy who might want to attack it.
However, instead of hastening to embrace Islam after the tolerance and the good treatment they received, the Jews became hostile enemies to the Muslims as they felt that Islam is a danger which threatens their existence. It was not long until they broke their covenant with the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, and started to lie in ambush for the Muslims and light the fire of strife and turmoil. So the Jewish “snakes” had come out of their “holes” and started to “spit out” their “poison” in every place. Sometimes they would provoke people to keep away from Islam. At other times they would raise doubts concerning its principles, teachings, and the supremacy of its Message. Yet other times they would claim that idol-worshiping was better and more superior than the belief in just one God. When these evil actions brought about nothing but failure, the Jews started to sow seeds of discord among the Al-Muhaajiroon and the Al-Ansaar on one side and among Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj on the other side, by using their skills in deceit and conspiracies.
For instance, once Shaas Ibn Qays, one of the leaders of the Jews, passed by a group of Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj while they were sitting together in a brotherly and friendly environment. He was enraged by the affectionate scene and hatred ate up his heart. Therefore, he ordered a young Jewish man to join their session and remind them of the Day of Bu`aath – the day on which Al-Aws gained victory over Al-Khazraj five years before the Prophet’s migration to Al-Madeenah – and to recite to them some of their poetry that highly praised that occasion. The young man did that and the fire of turmoil was ignited between the two parties and a bloody war was about to start between them, but thanks to the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, who went to them with a group of the Al-Muhaajiroon, the trouble was prevented. He, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said to them, “(Are you following) the traditions of Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic period of ignorance) whilst I am among you? (Is it that you want to) become disbelievers again after Allaah has honoured you with Islam, cut you off the (evils of) Jaahiliyyah, and united your hearts, would you then wish to return to your original state as non-Muslims (disbelievers)?"
Thereupon they regained their senses and realized that it was one of the hostile plots of their enemy. They put down their weapons, wept, and embraced one another then moved away with the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam. And so the plot of their enemy, Shaas Ibn Qays, was in vain.
When the Muslims gained great victory over the Qurasyh in the Battle of Badr and also gained might, power, and reverence in Al-Madeenah and its surrounding areas, the Jews in Al-Madeenah were very angry because of that and showed enmity toward the Muslims. The Jews of Banu Qaynuqaa` used to make fun of the Muslims and undermine the victory they had gained on the Day of Badr. Their poet, Ka`b Ibn Al -Ashraf, launched a hostile campaign against the Muslims and lamented the disbelievers who were killed on that day and provoked the Quraysh to take revenge and remove the disgrace of that shocking defeat. The man also used to recite obscene poetry about the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, and his companions, may Allaah pleased with them.
The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, wanted to advise the Jews first and call them to stop opposing Allaah and His Messenger. So, he gathered them in their market and said to them, “ O Jews! Embrace Islam before you are afflicted with what the Quraysh has been afflicted with.” They replied to the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, arrogantly, “O Muhammad! Do not be deceived (by the victory that you gained when) you met people – i.e., the Quraysh – who have no knowledge how to fight in war and so you defeated them. By Allaah, if we fight you, you will surely know that we are the people (who are indeed strong and undefeatable).”
Furthermore, Banu Qaynuqaa` went to excesses in their evil and harassed a Muslim woman who entered their market to sell jewels. A number of Jews surrounded her, annoyed her, and asked her to uncover her face, but she refused. The jeweler tied her garment to her back but she did not feel it, so when she stood up her legs uncovered and the Jews laughed at her. She cried out for help so a Muslim man jumped over the jeweler and killed him. Therefore, the Jews collectively beat the Muslim and killed him as well.
As a result, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, had no other alternative but to fight those faithless people who had broken the covenant that was between him and them because of that wicked act. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, besieged them for fifteen nights then stopped the siege and drove them out of Al-Madeenah after seizing their weapons. They left defeated to the territories of the Levant.
The remaining tribes of the Jews did not learn a lesson from what had happened to their Jewish brothers from Banu Qaynuqaa`. They continued plotting and conspiring and became even more hostile after the Battle of Uhud, to the extent that they planned to kill the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam. They thought that the time was suitable to carry out their evil plan when the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, went to them, in the month of Rabee` Al-Awwal in the fourth year after migration, to ask the Jews of Banu An-Nadheer to help him in paying the diyah (blood money) of two men who had been killed unintentionally by a Muslim. They were bound to do this according to the terms of the covenant that was between them and the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam. Therefore, they pretended to agree to help him, while they intended to do something evil. They asked the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, to sit beside the wall of one of their houses until they could fulfill what they had promised. Then the Jews assembled in secret and agreed that one of them would throw a huge rock on the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, from above that house and get rid of him. However, Almighty Allaah sent the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) to the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, who informed him about the evil that those traitors had planed to do.
Thus, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, stood up quickly and headed for Al-Madeenah followed by his companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, who were with him. When the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, was sure that the Jews insisted on betraying him and conspiring against Islam, he decided to drive them out of Al-Madeenah. He gave them ten days to leave but they declared that they would challenge and resist him. Their chief Huyayy Ibn Akhtab sent the following message to the Prophet: “We shall not leave our houses, so do whatever you want!” Therefore, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, went to them in the month of Rabee` Al-Awwal in the fourth year after migration and besieged them until they surrendered. Then he commanded that they should go to Khaybar with their belongings and wealth, but without any weapons.
The Jews’ evil plots and conspiracies continued. They broke covenants and agreements and paid no attention to what the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, had done to the Jews of Banu An-Nadheer. Still, the next conspiracy was the biggest of all, for it aimed at completely destroying Islam and the Muslims. That was when the same dishonest Jews of Banu An-Nadheer, whom the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, had driven out to Khaybar, planned – under the leadership of Huyayy Ibn Akhtab – to provoke the Arab tribes to fight the Muslims in Al-Madeenah aiming to put an end to them all.
The conspirers achieved their goal as the Arab tribes went out with a huge army consisting of ten thousand fighters in the month of Shawwaal in the fifth year after migration. The chief of Banu An-Nadheer had managed to provoke his faithless brothers from among the Jews of Banu Quraythah – the last of the Jewish tribes in Al-Madeenah – to break the covenants and agreements that were between them and the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam.
Thus, after that conspiracy, the Muslims were between two dangers: the danger of the polytheists who were besieging Al-Madeenah and nothing could prevent them from entering it except the trench that the Muslims had dug - and the danger of the disloyal Jews of Banu Quraythah in the south of Al-Madeenah. At that time, all the powers of evil had agreed to defeat the Muslims and overthrow their state in Al-Madeenah. Nonetheless, Allaah (Glorified and Exalted is He) was observing the plots of the enemies against His faithful servants, so He sent to the Confederates a powerful wind that plucked out their tents and cast them into a state of desperation. Therefore, they decided to withdraw and Allaah prevented them from fighting the Muslims.
When the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, returned after the Battle of the Trench, Allaah commanded him to go with his army and fight the faithless Jews of Banu Quraythah, and so he went to them. When they saw the Muslims’ army, they were terrified and fortified themselves under their fortresses. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, besieged them for twenty five nights, and finally they surrendered. Slyly, they asked their friends from the tribe of Al-Aws to mediate between them and the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, so that he might treat them as he did with the Jews of Banu Qaynuqaa` (i.e., to let them leave Al-Madeenah).
They chose the prominent companion Sa`d Ibn Mu`aath, may Allaah be pleased with him, from Al-Aws, to pass a judgment concerning them. Sa`d, may Allaah be pleased with him, judged that their men be killed, their women be taken as captives, and their property be divided. Thereupon the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said to Sa`d, “Your judgment coincides with the judgment of Allaah from above the seven heavens!”
Al-Madeenah was purified from the disloyalty and betrayal of the Jews, and only Khaybar remained. It was located a hundred miles from the north of Al-Madeenah, and it had become a strong fortress and a new “den” for the Jewish “snakes”. That place became a place of conspiracies and evil plots by the Jews of Khaybar themselves and the Jews of Banu An-Nadheer who had immigrated to them.
The people of Khaybar played a significant role in provoking the Arabs against the Muslims in the Battle of the Trench and in urging the Jews of Banu Quraythah to betray the Muslims in Al-Madeenah. Additionally, they had pacts with the hypocrites. They even contacted the tribe of Ghatafaan – who had prepared to fight the Muslims – and offered to give them half of the fruit of Khaybar if they defeated them. Moreover, and still more shocking, the faithless Jews drew an evil plan to kill the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, and so they prepared themselves to carry out this heinous crime.
Those conspiracies could not be hidden from the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, as he was observing their dangerous activities and was preparing to confront them and destroy them. He went out to fight them at the end of the month of Al-Muharram in the seventh year after migration. He took the initiative and faced them with a counterattack that thwarted their cunning plots. Their fortresses collapsed before him one after the other and many of them were killed, so they became totally desperate and asked the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, to make peace with them providing that he spared their blood. Tolerant and forgiving as he was, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, agreed. He had intended to drive them out of their land but they asked him to allow them to stay and cultivate it and they promised to pay half of its produce to the Muslims. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, agreed.
In spite of the tolerance, good treatment, and forgiveness that they received from the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, their hostile souls were still full of hatred against the Muslims. They were waiting for any opportunity to harm the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, and the Muslims.
So it did not take long after the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, had made peace with them and allow them to stay in their houses, until Zaynab Bint Al-Haarith – the wife of Salaam Ibn Mishkam, a Jewish man who was killed in the Battle of Khaybar – gave a poisoned goat to the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, as a gift. She put it in front of him and he took a piece of it and chewed it but did not swallow it, and said,
“This bone (of the goat) tells me it is poisoned.” Then the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, called for the woman and she confessed to what she had done. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, asked her, “Why did you do that?” She replied, “I said to myself: if you are a king we will get rid of you after the poison kills you, and if you are a Prophet your Lord will tell you.”
The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, forgave her. But after the companion Bishr Ibn Al-Baraa’ Ibn Ma`roor, may Allaah be pleased with him, died after eating from the goat, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, ordered that she be killed in retaliation for the murder of his companion. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, suffered from the effects of that poison from time to time until he passed away.
Since the era of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, until today, the Jews have been conspiring against the Muslims and spreading dissension and despair among them so that they may not be able to defend their religion and restore their usurped lands. For these reasons, the Muslims must come to their senses and stand united in the face of this Jewish danger and its endless evil goals.
