Arrogance in the Quran

By Maged Taman:

1- Arrogance in admitting fault:

2:206 (Y. Ali) When it is said to him, "Fear Allah., He is led by arrogance to (more) crime. Enough for him is Hell;-An evil bed indeed (To lie on)!

2- Arrogance in rejecting the signs of God:

7:36 (Y. Ali) But those who reject Our signs and treat them with arrogance,- they are companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for ever).

7:40 (Y. Ali) To those who reject Our signs and treat them with arrogance, no opening will there be of the gates of heaven, nor will they enter the garden, until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle: Such is Our reward for those in sin.

3- Arrogance in appreciating the miracles of God:

7:133 (Y. Ali) So We sent (plagues) on them (the Egyptians): Wholesale death, Locusts, Lice, Frogs, And Blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance,- a people given to sin.

4- Arrogance against the Quran:

23:67 (Y. Ali) "In arrogance: talking nonsense about the (Qur'an), like one telling fables by night."

5- Arrogance against the signs of God despite their inner feeling belief it is the truth:

27:14 (Y. Ali) And they rejected those Signs in iniquity and arrogance, though their souls were convinced thereof: so see what was the end of those who acted corruptly

6- Arrogance even in listening to the Quran:

31:7 (Y. Ali) When Our Signs are rehearsed to such a one, he turns away in arrogance, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in both his ears: announce to him a grievous Penalty. -

7- Arrogance for the sake of enjoying evil:

35:43 (Y. Ali) On account of their arrogance in the land and their plotting of Evil, but the plotting of Evil will hem in only the authors thereof. Now are they but looking for the way the ancients were dealt with? But no change wilt thou find in Allah's way (of dealing): no turning off wilt thou find in Allah's way (of dealing).

8- Arrogance in repenting and accepting God forgiveness:

63:5 (Y. Ali) And when it is said to them, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will pray for your forgiveness", they turn aside their heads, and thou wouldst see them turning away their faces in arrogance

9- Arrogance against listening to the prophets like Noah:

71:7 (Y. Ali) "And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance.
