Fear of God in the Quran

By: Maged Taman

1- God ordered Children of Israel not to fear any one but God: (The Quran is God's Book for the Jews do not stand against him)

2:40 (Picktall) O Children of Israel! Remember My favor wherewith I favored you, and fulfil your (part of the) covenant, I shall fulfil My (part of the) covenant and fear Me.

2- The true Muslims fear only or at least mainly God:

3:173 (Picktall) Those unto whom men said: Lo! the people have gathered against you, therefore fear them. (The threat of danger) but increased the faith of them and they cried: Allah is sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust!

3- Satan control the world by inciting fear in people who follow him through their leaders, Muslims fear only God:

3:175 (Picktall) It is only the devil who would make (men) fear his partisans. fear them not; fear Me, if ye are true believers.

4- Those who fear the disbelievers from hypocrite Muslims will regret when God open the lands to Muslims:

5:52 (Picktall) And thou seest those in whose heart is a disease race toward them, saying: We fear lest a change of fortune befall us. And it may happen that Allah will vouchsafe (unto thee) the victory, or a commandment from His presence. Then will they repent of their secret thoughts.

5- In fact those Muslims hypocrites or apostates God will replace them by new Muslims who fear only God (could even be converted Christians and Jews):

5:54 (Picktall) O ye who believe! Whoso of you becometh a renegade from his religion, (know that in his stead) Allah will bring a people whom He loveth and who love Him, humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers, striving in the way of Allah and fearing not the blame of any blamer. Such is the grace of Allah which He giveth unto whom He will. Allah is All Embracing, All Knowing.

6- Those true Muslims will fear God and his day of judgement:

6:15 (Picktall) Say: I fear, if I rebel against my Lord, the retribution of an Awful Day. -

6:51 (Picktall) Warn hereby those who fear (because they know) that they will be gathered unto their Lord, for whom there is no protecting friend nor intercessor beside Him, that they may ward off (evil).

24:37 (Picktall) Men whom neither merchandise nor sale beguileth from remembrance of Allah and constancy in prayer and paying to the poor their due; who fear a day when hearts and eyeballs will be overturned; -

7- God Already gave us in this world the taste of fear so we would go back to him:

6:63 (Picktall) Say: Who delivereth you from the darkness of the land and the sea? Ye call upon Him humbly and in secret, (saying): If we are delivered from this (fear) we truly will be of the thankful.

8- Once we go back to him and fear only him: the paradox here if we fear him this fear is accompanied by great tranquility from fears of calamity, eternity and all possible fears.

7:35 (Picktall) O Children of Adam! If messengers of your own come unto you who narrate unto you My revelations, then whosoever refraineth from evil and amendeth there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

9- Thus this fear is accompanied by hope:

7:56 (Picktall) Work not confusion in the earth after the fair ordering (thereof), and call on Him in fear and hope. Lo! the mercy of Allah is nigh unto the good.

10- In fact the real believers are those who their heart has the fear of God accompanied by the faith and reliance on God which make their fear in fact a great assurance:

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ (8:2) 8:2 (Picktall) They only are the (true) believers whose hearts feel fear when Allah is mentioned, and when the revelations of Allah are recited unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord;

10:62 (Picktall) Lo! verily the friends of Allah are (those) on whom fear (cometh) not, nor do they grieve.

11- God promised those believers that there will be no fear when they inherit the earth and no fear of oppression or persecution but only tranquility in following only God:

24:55 (Picktall) Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good works that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, a will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.

12- In fact they also will be not fearful in that day of Judgment since their previous fear of God is rewarded by security of that day:

27:87 (Picktall) And (remind them of) the Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and the earth will start in fear, save him whom Allah willeth. And all come unto Him, humbled.
