49:12 O ye who believe!

By: Maged Taman

49:12 O ye who believe! Shun much suspicion; for lo! some suspicion is a crime. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Ye abhor that (so abhor the other)! And keep your duty (to Allah). Lo! Allah is Relenting, Merciful. -

49:12 O ye who believe!: God call the believers, He does that when He commands them for doing the right or avoiding the wrong. If you go through the Quran God talk to different people like the Mankind, believers, disbelievers, prophets, Muhammad, The people of the Book... The contents of his speech is very appropriate to the person or the people who have the talk directed to.
Shun much suspicion; : along the wicked sins is suspicion which does not have proofs
for lo! some suspicion is a sin. : you shun much of the suspicion because few are wrong and hence are sins, like suspect a bad thing about an innocent person
And spy not,: the second wicked sin here is spying
neither backbite one another.: the third wicked sin is backbiting
Would one of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother?: backbiting of a person is like eating his dead flesh, both are rotten and both exemplify biting. It is to be understood however that talking of a tyrant or unjust person is not a sin but duty (the hadith: the best Jihad is saying the truth to an unjust tyrant).
Ye abhor that (so abhor the other)!: This act of eating a brother flesh is hateful
And keep your duty (to Allah).: So fear God
Lo! Allah is Relenting, Merciful. -: He is merciful so repent to him if you committed these sins
The common in these three wicked sins is the progress you try to think bad about a person, even to spy to prove it and then use it as a suspicion or a collected information to disgrace him. Even if a person has faults or sins God want us not to chase him. The major faults that involve significant harm and injustice however need to be pursued. The grace of God is ordering us to avoid much of the suspicion because some are wrong. His grace also in making us hating backbiting by exemplify it by eating people dead flesh. He put the later as an exclamation to us, He reason with us do we like to see this scene. Thus when we start to backbite we realize how we look like.
