Islam: The Religion of Empowerment

By: Maged Taman

God empowerment is a great doctrine in Islam. It is mostly to people who has or had less power and for being a just God he stands for them and empower them.

1- Empowering the believers:

28:5 And We desired to show favor unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors,

2- Empowering the parents:

17:23 Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them to attain old age with thee, say not "Fie" unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.

19:14 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious.

31:14 And We have enjoined upon man concerning his parents. His mother beareth him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Give thanks unto Me and unto thy parents. Unto Me is the journeying.

3- Empowering the Orphans: For parents to avoid leaving their orphans weak after them 4:9 and for those who are taking care of them after their parents not to devour their whealth 4:10. For all of us we are ordered not to oppress the orphan.

4:9 And let those fear (in their behavior toward orphans) who if they left behind them weak offspring would be afraid for them. So let them mind their duty to Allah, and speak justly. -

4:10 Lo! Those who devour the wealth of orphans wrongfully, they do but swallow fire into their bellies, and they will be exposed to burning flame.

4:2 Give unto orphans their wealth. Exchange not the good for the bad (in your management thereof) nor absorb their wealth into your own wealth. Lo! that would be a great sin.

93:9 Therefor the orphan oppress not,

4-Empowering Women: God put women equal to men in both religious duties and rewards.

33:35 Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember--Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.

57:12 On the day when thou (Muhammad) wilt see the believers, men and women, their light shining forth before them and on their right hands, (and wilt hear it said unto them): Glad news for you this day: Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein ye are immortal. That is the supreme triumph.

5- Empowering girls: Shame and infanticide were the actions of fathers before Islam of having a girl. God mocked the ignorance and injustice and protected the life and dignity of girls. God made as well no preference of a child according to his sex. Prophet Muhammad dealt with his daughter with great love.

16:58 When if one of them receiveth tidings of the birth of a female, his face remaineth darkened, and he is wroth inwardly.

16:59 He hideth himself from the folk because of the evil of that whereof he hath bad tidings, (asking himself): Shall he keep it in contempt, or bury it beneath the dust. Verily evil is their judgment.

6- Empowering the honorable women: Women honor is protected by God.

24:4 And those who accuse honorable women but bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and never (afterward) accept their testimony--They indeed are evildoers-- -

24:23 Lo! as for those who traduce virtuous, believing women (who are) careless, cursed are they in the world and the Hereafter. Theirs will be an awful doom.

7- Empowering the innocent:

4:112 And whoso committeth a delinquency or crime, then throweth (the blame) thereof upon the innocent, hath burdened himself with falsehood and a flagrant crime.

8-Empowering the poor: he has right in our wealth.

51:19 And in their wealth the beggar the outcast had due share.

17:26 Give the kinsman his due, and the needy, and the wayfarer, and squander not (thy wealth) in wantonness.
