How to Study The Quran

By: Maged Taman

1- Be assured that the Quran is from God:

27:6 Lo! as for thee (Muhammad), thou verily receivest the quran from the presence of One Wise, Aware.

10:37 And this quran is not such as could ever be invented in despite of Allah; but it is a confirmation of that which was before it and an exposition of that which is decreed for mankind-- Therein is no doubt--from the Lord of the Worlds.

2- A little doubt to the truth could happen to Muslims: even prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself had the doubt as God mentioned in the Quran likely for few minutes, but we have to go back quickly to the truth and assert that the Quran is the truth.

10:94 And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.

3- If this doubt happen: you have to remember that the prophet did not read or write, he was never known to be a liar:

62:2 It is He Who has sent amongst the Unlettered an apostle from among themselves, to rehearse to them His Signs, to sanctify them, and to instruct them in scripture and Wisdom,- although they had been, before, in manifest error;- هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي الْأُمِّيِّينَ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا مِن قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ (62:2)

4- Besides, God promised to preserve the Quran: He kept his promise with no change in one verse or letter over 1400 years.

15:9 Lo! We, even We, reveal the reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian.

5- In fact God challenges the Jinn and Mankind to bring the like of the Quran: and no one have brought like the Quran including any government in the world.

17:88 Say: Verily, though mankind and the jinn should assemble to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like thereof though they were helpers one of another.

6- Even if you are strong believer Satan can influence your thinking: even when you read the Quran, to seek God refuge from Satan. Satan even inspired some to say that the Quran is his own invention and book.

16:98 And when thou recitest the quran, seek refuge in Allah from Satan the outcast.

7- If you are not Muslim and reading the Quran to defeat it beware: you have the right to have doubt but to read the Quran to defeat God you are willingly chose the hell-fire.

22:51 "But those who strive against Our signs, to frustrate them,- they will be Companions of the Fire."

8- Go nice and slow when study the Quran: this was the way recited and brought in:

17:106 And (it is) a quran that We have divided, that thou mayest recite it unto mankind at intervals, and We have revealed it by (successive) revelation.

9- The Quran is very powerful: If the mountain can understand Arabic he would rent asunder by fear of God. Similarly it could cause the mountains to move, the earth to shatter and the dead to listen. So take him seriously the speaker is God.

59:21 If We had caused this Qur'an to descend upon a mountain, thou (O Muhammad) verily hadst seen it humbled, rent asunder by the fear of Allah. Such similitudes coin We for mankind that haply they may reflect.

13:31 Had it been possible for a Lecture to cause the mountains to move, or the earth to be torn asunder, or the dead to speak, (this quran would have done so). Nay, but Allah's is the whole command. Do not those who believe know that, had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind? As for those who disbelieve, disaster ceaseth not to strike them because of what they do, or it dwelleth near their home until the threat of Allah come to pass. Lo! Allah faileth not to keep the tryst.

10- Have a simple summary to the Quran: which is chapter the Opening or Al fataha.

1:1 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

1:2 Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds,

1:3 The Beneficent, the Merciful:

1:4 Owner of the Day of Judgment,

1:5 Thee (alone) we worship; Thee alone we ask for help.

1:6 Show us the straight path,

1:7 The path of those whom Thou hast favored; Not (the path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray.

11- The Quran is statements and all kinds of similitude: So when you study the Quran find in the verses the statements and try to memorize them.

30:58 Verily We have coined for mankind in the quran all kinds of similitudes; and indeed if thou comest unto them with a miracle, those who disbelieve would verily exclaim: Ye are but tricksters!

12- The Quran is two kind of verses clear and allegorical: Many of the verses that were allegorical came to be more clear over the years as the verses that talk about science as we sent down iron, we created the heavens with might and we are expanding, and so forth.

3:7 He it is Who hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture wherein are clear revelations--They are the substance of the book--and others (which are) allegorical. But those in whose hearts is doubt pursue, forsooth, that which is allegorical seeking (to cause) dissension by seeking to explain it. None knoweth its explanation save Allah. And those who are of sound instruction say: We believe therein; the whole is from our Lord; but only men of understanding really heed.

12:3 We narrate unto thee (Muhammad) the best of narratives in that We have inspired in thee this quran, though aforetime thou wast of the heedless.

13- Know the main topics of the Quran: the creation, faith including what it entails, defining its truth and refuting other falsehoods, the moral code, the sharia or God's laws in various topics of our lives, stories of the prophets and the hereafter.

3:190 Lo! In the creation of the heavens and the earth and (in) the difference of night and day are tokens (of His sovereignty) for men of understanding,

47:2 And those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad--and it is the truth from their Lord--He riddeth them of their ill deeds and improveth their state.

8:2 They only are the (true) believers whose hearts feel fear when Allah is mentioned, and when the revelations of Allah are recited unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord;

5:48 And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ.

12:3 We narrate unto thee (Muhammad) the best of narratives in that We have inspired in thee this quran, though aforetime thou wast of the heedless.

3:185 Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
