How the Unbelievers Answered the Call to Islam

By Maged Taman:

When God inspired the prophet with the Quran, the unbelievers did every thing possible to reject Islam. Their intentions are the same that people who disbelieved prophets over human lives did: envy, arrogance, loosing materialistic gains, enjoying the life of sins, close mindedness...
God in the Quran mentioned all their logic and tactics to reject the message and answered them:

1- Following their parents: The Quran answer by question how about if their parents are devoid of knowledge and guidance.

5:104 for when they are told, "Come unto that which God has bestowed from on high, and unto the Apostle" - they answer, "Enough for us is that which we found our forefathers believing in and doing." why, even though their forefathers knew nothing, and were devoid of all guidance?

2- Answering to a man of them!!: The exclamation in the verse is made to look like an exclamation to them about having this thought.

7:63 why, do you deem it strange that a tiding from your Sustainer should have come unto you through a man from among yourselves, so that he might warn you, and that you might become conscious of God, and that you might be graced with His mercy?"

3- Asking for miracle: the answer is he has the Quran itself that reveal a lot of things to humans and guidance to his belief system.

7:203 And yet, when thou [O Prophet] dost not produce any miracle for them, some [people] say, "Why dost thou not seek to obtain it [from God]? Say: "I only follow whatever is being revealed to me by my Sustainer: this [revelation] is a means of insight from your Sustainer, and a guidance and grace unto people who will believe.

4- We want the angels to be sent down or we see God: God answer them be denouncing their arrogance since he is the one who make the roles when he will send prophets and what ways he would use to make people believe in his messages.

25:21 But those who do not believe that they are destined to meet Us are wont to say, “why have no angels been sent down to us?” – or, “why do we not see our Sustainer?” Indeed, they are far too proud of themselves, having rebelled [against God’s truth] with utter disdain!

5- To have the Quran in one single revelation: The answer is simple it is more strengthening to the prophet heart and Muslims to have the revelation come down to them over 23 years than an angel to drop the Quran in a single day.

25:32 Now they who are bent on denying the truth are wont to ask. “why has not the Qur’an been bestowed on him from on high in one single revelation?” [it has been revealed] in this manner so that We might strengthen thy heart thereby - for We have so arranged its component parts that they form one consistent whole -

6- To have the miracles of Moses: the answer is people did not believe these miracles particularly the Egyptians.

28:48 And yet, now that the truth has come unto them from Us, they say, “why has he not been vouchsafed the like of what Moses was vouchsafed?” But did they not also, before this, deny the truth of what Moses was vouchsafed? [For] they do say, “Two examples of delusion, [seemingly] supporting each other!” And they add, “Behold, we refuse to accept either of them as true!”

7- Doubting the resurrection: God answer is it will be sudden and real.

37:16 why - after we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? –
37:17 and perhaps also our forebears of old?”
(37:17) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
37:18 Say: “Yea, indeed - and most abject will you then be!” –
(37:18) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
37:19 for that [resurrection which they deride] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry - and then, lo! they will begin to see [the truth]
(37:19) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
37:20 and will say: “Oh, woe unto us! This is the Day of Judgment!”
(37:20) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
37:21 [And they will be told:] “This is the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false - the Day] which you were wont to call a lie!”

8- Why Arabic: this question would be asked even if it was non-Arabic language. The belief does not come from the language but the contents.

41:44 Now if We had willed this [divine writ] to be a discourse in a non-Arabic tongue, they [who now reject it] would surely have said, “why is it that its messages have not been spelled out clearly? why - [a message in] a non-Arabic tongue, and [its bearer] an Arab?” Say: “Unto all who have attained to faith, this [divine writ] is a guidance and a source of health; but as for those who will not believe - in their ears is deafness, and so it remains obscure to them: they are [like people who are] being called from too far away.

9- We want another man, a famous one: God answer them with the question are they the one who will choose the grace of God. The standards of living they talk about is made by God, he is the one who put people on their worldly standards.

43:31 And they say, too, “Why was not this Qur’an bestowed from on high on some great man of the two cities?”
(43:31) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

43:32 But is it they who distribute thy Sustainer’s grace? [Nay, as] it is We who distribute their means of livelihood among them in the life of this world, and raise some of them by degrees above others, to the end that they might avail themselves of one another’s help - [so, too, it is We who bestow gifts of the spirit upon whomever We will]: and this thy Sustainer’s grace is better than all [the worldly wealth] that they may amass.

10- The Gods became one!!: They were mocking the prophets for that although paganism itself has no evidence that why God threaten them with punishment since they denied him the right for logic and evidence. Their denial and arrogance is what brings on them their own punishment.

38:5 Does he claim that all the deities are [but] one God? Verily, a most strange thing is this!”
(38:5) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
38:6 And their leaders launch forth [thus]: “Go ahead, and hold steadfastly onto your deities: this, behold, is the only thing to do!
(38:6) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
38:7 Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man’s] invention!
(38:7) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
38:8 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?” Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose!
(38:8) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

11- He is just a poet: God mocks them that he will wait with them until they prove Muhammad is wrong like poems will stop flowing or he will make absurd mistakes and so forth.

52:30 Or do they say, “[He is but] a poet - let us wait what time will do unto him”?
(52:30) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
52:31 Say thou: “Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!”
(52:31) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

12- Or it is just their ambitions and arrogance: the is answer is here it is their characters that prevented them from submission to God.

52:32 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance?
(52:32) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

13- Muhammad made it up: the answer is simple make one like it.

52:33 Or do they say, “He himself has composed this [message]”? Nay, but they are not willing to believe!
(52:33) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
52:34 But then, [if they deem it the work of a mere mortal,] let them produce another discourse like it - if what they say be true!
(52:34) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

14- They are created from nothing: God to mock them more he is exclaiming may be they are created from nothing or they created themselves. Or may be they know what God is hiding: destiny, prophecies, history and so on.

52:35 Have they themselves been created without anything [that might have caused their creation]? or were they, perchance, their own creators? (52:35) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
52:36 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! (52:36) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
52:37 [How could they?] Are thy Sustainer’s treasures with them? Or are they in charge [of destiny]? (52:37) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
52:38 Or have they a ladder by which they could [ascend to ultimate truths and] listen [to what is beyond the reach of human perception]? Let, then, any of them who have listened [to it] produce a manifest proof [of his knowledge]!

15- Fables of ancient times: the answer is it is their evil that make their hearts unable to believe and make up these allegations.

83:13 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say, "Fables of ancient times!"

83:14 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do!
(83:14) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

83:15 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred;

16- Muhammad is a wizsard: God put their attitude in an exclamation form, how a warner is considered a spellbinder or a liar.

38:4 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: “A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar!

37:15 and say: “This is clearly nothing but [a mortal’s] spellbinding eloquence!

17- Is Muhammad asking them a reward?: though they did not say that they should have considered that in absence of asking them a reward he is really not profitting from his message. If anything they offered him reward to cancel his message. They offered to make him their king, the richer of them or marry the prettiest woman he would like. His answer with strong and simple " if to put the sun on my right hand and the moon on the left I would not depart from the message until God make it prevail or I die for it.

52:40 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]?
(52:40) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi

18- God does not want us to submit: When they run out of ideas they told the prophet that God is not allowing them to believe.

16:35 Now they who ascribe divinity to aught beside God say, "Had God so willed, we would not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor our forefathers; nor would we have declared aught as forbidden without a commandment from Him." Even thus did speak those [sinners] who lived before their time; but, then, are the apostles bound to do more than clearly deliver the message [entrusted to them] ?
Asad(16,32)

19- They said they believe: some of the unbelieveres claimed tha they believed (the hypocrites) and were hidden enemies to Islam.
2:8 And there are people who say, "We do believe in God and the Last Day," the while they do not [really]. believe. (2:8) Baset - Hussari - Minshawi
2:9 They would deceive God and those who have attained to faith-the while they deceive none but themselves, and perceive it not.

20- That is why God sealed their hearts secondary to all the wickdness and paragmatism they used so they do not submit to his message.

30:59 In this way does God seal the hearts of those who do not [want to] know [the truth].

21- For the above reasons and more the unbelievers do not submit to God. Their wicked intention surpassed their intellect:

30:58 AND, INDEED, We have propounded unto men all kinds of parables in this Qur’an. But thus it is: if thou approach them with any [such] message, those who are bent on denying the truth are sure to say, “You are but making false claims!”
